Belize Adventure Week
Full Week – Sat – Sat, $2795 per person
Saturday, Day 1: Arrive BZE, then continue on a local flight to Dangriga (guest responsibility, see Domestic Flight Reservations). Landing in Dangriga, if you can carry your luggage about the length of a football field, simply walk directly toward the sea and you are there. If you have too much to carry, catch a cab one block to Pelican Beach Resort. Note: your international flight should land in Belize no later than 4:00 pm to ensure you will be able to catch the last flight to Dangriga; be sure to check local flights before confirming international flights. We meet for orientation, dinner, and overnight at Pelican Beach Resort at 6:00 p.m. We cover all hotels, meals, and transport once meeting you.
Sunday, Day 2: Awake early and drive to Bocawina Rainforest Resort (45 min) for breakfast, then hike about 600’ up a steep jungle trail, where a view to the sea and refreshing pool reward our effort. After a long swim, we prepare for the waterfall rappel. The guides train everyone on rappelling, and one by one each person descends through the waterfalls. Guests can hike back down to opt out of this event if they choose. After lunch we go ziplining! The course is set in 8 stages, with the longest run 2300 feet. The guides set everyone up with harnesses and give thorough instruction on the zipline technique. Any guests feeling uncertain of their ability can ride tandem with a guide. In early afternoon we load up and begin the drive to our next destination, Windy Hill Resort near San Ignacio (2 hrs). Dinner and lodging at Windy Hill this evening.
Monday, Day 3: After breakfast we learn whitewater kayaking for a run down the Mopan River. We use sit-on-top kayaks for this adventure, which are stable and easy to paddle. A land training session is followed with further instruction on the river. The beginner-level rapids are quite exciting! Lunch is at a riverside cafe. After lunch we tour Xunantunich Ruins. We return to Windy Hill for our final night in the jungle.
Tuesday, Day 4: We pack up early and drive to the Caves Branch River where we run this easy river in kayaks, navigating by headlamp. Everyone must negotiate a quarter-mile portage on a jungle trail just after lunch. Finishing in the late afternoon, we drive to the Belize Biltmore Hotel in Belize City where we are joined by others on the Second Half package. Our island orientation is followed by dinner at the hotel.
Wednesday, Day 5: After group breakfast walk to our private dock two blocks away. From here we travel two-and-a-half hours by boat to Long Caye (65 miles). After lunch, move into your cabana, explore the island, and snorkel right off our shore after snorkel orientation.
Thursday, Day 6: Our sea kayak orientation is this morning: we cover paddle strokes, entering and exiting the kayak, and rescue techniques. After lunch one guide takes a group paddling to a nearby patch reef to snorkel from the kayaks, while another guide offers windsurfing instruction. Certified divers may also begin diving.
Friday, Day 7: The first Discover Scuba/Resort course is often offered this morning for beginning divers. Others enjoy a morning paddle. Both windsurfing and kayak surfing orientations are offered in the afternoon. You may join one or both. We have a near-constant breeze and a perfect set of waves breaking just off our shore, and our surf boards provide great action for experienced board surfers.
Saturday, Day 8: One final dive or snorkel to “The Wall”, where the ocean floor drops from 40 to 2,600 feet in under a mile. After lunch we return to Belize City. Our arrival time cannot be predicted since it depends on factors we cannot control. Therefore, guests should not make other plans for Saturday night. After checking into the Biltmore, guests are on their own for dinner.
Sunday, Day 9: Earliest day to fly home, or continue to other spots in Belize for the rest of your trip.
