Belize does not experience Summer-Fall-Winter-Spring. The seasons in Belize are Rainy Season and Dry Season.
Slickrock Adventures owns a tiny island at Glovers Reef. Although we have wonderful Belize lodging in the form of Mayan-made thatch-roof cabanas, we spend most of the day outside and still are at the mercy of the weather. Therefore we are closed from early-May through late-November; the first part of the summer is the rainy season, which then becomes hurricane season in the fall. Prospective guests are encouraged to choose December – May to travel to Belize; this season is the best time to go to Belize by far. This amazing internet wind map can give you a visual picture of the wind all over the Earth. The brighter the color, the higher the wind speed. We have it set for the location of our island, which is the bright green circle on the left side of the Caribbean in this picture. You can move the map around with your mouse or your finger if you have a touch-screen. With a touch screen you can also enlarge the map to better pinpoint your location. Touch the map at any point to get an actual wind speed reading for that location.
January in Belize is one of the best months to visit, and is characterized by mild temperatures, regular trade winds, and varying amounts of rainfall. Although January is technically within the dry season, this month does see strong ‘northers’ which are cold fronts coming down from the temperate latitudes. These storms bring strong winds and rain, along with much cooler temperatures which are very refreshing.
January temperatures range from an average low of 70 degrees to an average high of 80 degrees.
February in Belize falls firmly within the dry season, and it has more consitently dry weather although northers still come in on a regular basis, keeping the humidity in check. Temperatures are still comfortable and mild during the day in the high-70s and low-80s, but at night they can become significantly cooler. The trade winds blow regularly, making this month ideal.
During February the temperatures in Belize typically vary between a daily high of about 80 degrees and a daily low of 70 degrees.
March weather conditions are a continuation of February weather with a slow and steady increase in the temperatures and decrease in rainfall. Northers still roll in, but are less frequent. Late March sees the dry season firmly entrenched, and even the typically rainy southern part of the country will see less rain this month. Trade winds remain steady. March is probably the best month of the entire year to visit Belize.
Temperatures in Belize during March generally vary between an average high during the day of 83 degrees and an average low of 74 at night.
April in Belize is one of the driest months, and is characterized by noticably rising temperatures and sporadic afternoon showers referred to as “Iguana Rains” that don’t bring any significant amount of moisture with them. Humidity is higher and northers are rare. Temperatures are very warm, often 5-10 degrees higher in the interior of the country. The trade winds still blow, but are not as regular or as strong as the earlier winter months.
During April the temperatures typically vary between a daily high of about 85 degrees and a daily low of approximately 76 degrees.
Temperatures are on the rise, and May is the hottest month of the year. There is almost never any rain, and humidities are high and it begins to feel quite muggy. By the end of the month the rainy season typically begins and thunderstorms will become almost daily occurances, especially in the south. The trade winds slack off in May.
May temperatures in Belize range from an average low of 79 degrees to an average high of 87 degrees.
June in Belize is characterized by temperatures near their peak for the year, with rising humidity. The temperatures can be rather uncomfortable when combined with the high humidty brought in by the rainy season. Rainfall is fairly consistant throughout the country with frequent afternoon showers that are relatively short-lived with plenty of sunshine close behind.
During June the temperatures in Belize typically vary between a daily high of about 87 degrees and a daily low of approximately 79 degrees.
July follows much of the same pattern as June with high temperatures and increased rainfall. Humidity is high and the winds are light. July also signals the beginning of an increased chance to see severe tropical weather along the coast.
July temperatures in Belize range from an average low of 79 degrees to an average high of 86 degrees.
Locally referred to as the “Little Dry,” August is a period of decreased rainfall in Belize. The trade winds drop off and although rainfall decreases, the humidity and temperatures are still very high. Hurricane season is now well under way although Belize normally experiences hurricane threats in September and October.
August temperatures in Belize range from an average low of 78 degrees to an average high of 86 degrees.
September is characterized by very warm temperatures and relatively high rainfall throughout Belize. The trade winds have really dropped off and the hot and humid weather is at its peak. This month is firmly within the storm season and tropical waves and an occassional tropical storm or even a hurricane is seen. During September the temperatures in Belize typically vary between a daily high of about 86 degrees and a daily low of 77 degrees.
October marks the beginning of slightly cooler weather which brings heavy rains across Belize. This month is also the peak month for hurricane threats to the country with low trade winds, high humidty, with much rain.
During October the temperatures in Belize typically vary between a daily high of about 84 degrees and a daily low of approximately 75 degrees.
November in Belize signals the start of the significantly cooler temperatures of the year, although they are still relatively warm and rarely drop below the high-70s. The trade winds begin to blow again and by the end of the month the threat of hurricanes has disappeared. Rainfall can still be high, but the lower temps make the climate much more comfortable, making this month the beginning of the best time to visit Belize. Temperatures in Belize during November generally vary between an average high during the day of 80 degrees and an average low at night of 71 degrees.
December is a great month in Belize, with rainfall dropping off and much cooler temperatures moving in. The first northers appear, and the winds begin to stabilize. The cooler temps, lower humidity, and refreshing breezes make this an excellent time to travel to Belize. Temperatures in Belize during December generally vary between an average high during the day of 80 degrees and an average low at night of 71 degrees.
