The Mayan empire flourished in Belize about 1500 years ago. This cultural Mayan tour visits the Mayan temples of Tikal in nearby Guatemala as well as Mayan temples in Belize. The Mayans left behind ancient Mayan art which we discover on this premier tour in only 3 days of jungle exploration.

Wednesday, Day 1: Meet Shuttle Service and Transfer to Jungle Lodge. Whether you are flying in from the U.S. on this day or if you are already in the country, it is easy to meet our shuttle service to take you to Maya Mountain Lodge. For further information on how to meet us, visit the Mayan Odyssey Additional Information page. After leaving Belize City you are driven to Maya Mountain Lodge, a wonderful jungle hideaway, nestled beneath the rainforest canopy. This is a 2-2.5 hour drive. Maya Mountain Lodge is famous throughout Belize for their cuisine. After a swim in the pool we enjoy our first dinner at the lodge’s open air veranda.

Thursday, Day 2: Tikal Mayan Ruins. After an early breakfast we depart for a full-day trip to Tikal, the most extensive Mayan site in Central America. This site is considered by many to be the best area for birding as well as archaeology, since the site has been a national park and heavily protected for 25+ years. Lunch is at the ruins, and dinner and overnight back at Maya Mountain. You can read more about Tikal Mayan ruins on our Mayan Odyssey Destinations page.

Friday, Day 3: Chech-Hem-Ha Cave and Xunantunich Mayan Ruins. First we visit the Pottery Cave at Chech-Hem-Ha. Surrounded by the Vaca Forest Reserve, this incredible cave has huge intact pots on multiple ledges, and almost a mile deep inside the earth we find an ancient ceremonial chamber.  After lunch we visit the ruins of Xunantunich, Belize’s largest MBelize pottery cave, Chech-Hem-Ha.ayan site.

Persons on the 2-night package are returned to Belize City in time for our 5:30 p.m. meeting at the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel in time for our Adventure Island at Glover's Reef orientation. Persons on the 3-night package enjoy another fabulous meal and overnight at Maya Mountain Lodge. Please visit our Mayan Odyssey Destinations page for more information on Chech-Hem-Ha and Xunantunich.
