Exotic
couples vacations
Paddle your way to an ideal vacation—try
kayaking off the coast of this small Central American country just south
of Mexico. Slickrock Adventures shows you how to maneuver through the
water in a boat built for one or two.
Looking
for a vacation that offers the ultimate dunking? Look no further. Pack up your
bathing suit and go Belize sea kayaking in Central America, fly-fishing in Montana, or
white-water rafting in Iceland. The weeklong jaunts listed on the following
pages offer fun-filled drenchings among some of the most awe-inspiring
scenery. Each provides a perfect recipe for an entertaining and challenging
experience—just add water.
Reef Diving on a Tropical Vacation Island
Want to escape to the tropics? Head to Belize for a week of sea
kayaking with
Utah-based Slickrock Adventures. Belize boasts some of the world’s most pristine
coral reef, especially around Glover’s Reef, an atoll 65 miles southeast of
Belize City. Groups of 18 or less arrive via charter boat to Slickrock’s 13-acre
tropical island, Long Caye,
Belize, where dozens of one- or two-person kayaks await.
Guides instruct visitors of all skill levels on rolling, entering and exiting
the kayak while in water, and other techniques. They also offer daily guided
tours around the atoll’s shallow lagoon, where you can snorkel with barracudas,
stingrays, and sea turtles. Guests decide how little or how much they want to
do: Windsurfing, beach volleyball, and surf kayaking (wave riding in a kayak)
available. Meals such as conch stew and broiled red snapper with fried plantains
are taken in a rustic open-walled pavilion. Lodgings are in thatched-roof
stilted cabanas with no electricity or plumbing. It’s a bit of an adjustment for
some people, but by week’s end few want to leave this eco-paradise. For
