Belize Hiking
Caribbean Jungle Vacation
To read about jungle hiking as part of a multi-sport
package, check out our
Belize Adventure Week trip
or our Mayan Odyssey package.
There are some fantastic hiking trails in Belize,
although most of the hiking available is actually on the way to another
activity, such as a Mayan ruin or Mayan ceremonial cave. Most of the
maintained trails are in the jungle, and a competent guide should point
out the local plants and their medicinal uses, as well as jungle birds
and animals.
If you are looking for particularly good hiking in
Belize you should check out the following:
-Cockscomb
Jaguar Preserve
-Area around the Caves
Branch River
-On the way to Actun
Tunichil Muknal or Chech-Hem-Ha ceremonial caves
-Hiking from
Clarissa Falls
Cottages to Bullet Tree Falls
Walking jungle paths is incorporated
into many of our other activities. On our Belize
Adventure Week itinerary we hike through lush jungle during
the portage on the Caves Branch River, which provides an excellent
opportunity to see rainforest flora and fauna. When exploring
Xunantunich, we climb the Castillo, a hike which takes us to a viewpoint
where we can see all the way to nearby Guatemala. And we hike over a
mile through jungle to get to the entrance of Actun Tunichil Muknal.
Along the way your guide will point out various plants and their
medicinal uses. Numerous birds and iguana are often seen.
On our Mayan Odyssey
package we hike throughout the ruins of Tikal and we also hike along a
jungle path to access Chech-Hem-Ha pottery cave.
