...lost in the Caribbean and forgotten by the world. No modern conveniences, no schedules, no problems. It sounds like a fantasy, but you can experience it yourself on Long Caye resort in Belize at Glover's Reef. Join us on one of our exclusive multi-sport trips for the best vacation of your life!

"It was everything we had hoped for, and then some. A perfect balance of wilderness and amenities, structure and freedom, instruction and fun. Long Caye is a great alternative to the mega-luxury resorts that we have no interest in."

Each day we introduce a new sport. We begin by sea kayaking to magical scuba/snorkeling spots. Another day finds us in surf kayaks shredding the waves just off our shore, or scuba diving the underwater "Wall" within swimming distance of our island. At night we enjoy home-cooked meals.

Slickrock spares no effort to ensure that our tour is the best adventure sport trip in the entire Caribbean. In addition to the luxury of a secluded, private island, our gear is top-notch: we have surfboards, a fleet of 40+ sea kayaks, fishing and surf kayaks, paddleboards, and windsurfing gear for all ability levels.
Our kitesurf school offers professional instruction and Belize dive packages are available just down the beach for both certified divers and beginners. We have the only Vela kitesurf school in Belize.
Belize is famous for its reefs, and Glover’s Reef is considered the most pristine in the country. In recognition of the outstanding quality of the ecosystem, the atoll has been designated a National Marine Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site to protect it for future generations. Our Water Sports Center on Long Caye sits amidst this underwater paradise, offering a backdrop few locations can match.
We are the only adventure operation in Belize with a private island!
Perched on the brink of the continental shelf, our private island base lies on the slender coral ring of Glover’s Atoll, 35 miles off the mainland. Within this necklace of coral, you’ll find more than 700 pristine patch reefs brimming with the richest variety of marine life in the Caribbean. To read more about the atoll visit our Glover's Reef page.

When we first moved to Glover's Reef in 1992 our goal was to create a facility that feels non-developed. Obviously if you build a building, that’s some level of development. But throughout the Caribbean there are very few facilities that are rustic by design. On Long Caye, development means sixteen cabanas, a well-stocked kitchen, solar-powered water pumps, a composting toilet, three dozen sea kayaks, a bunch of sailboards, surf boards, and surf kayaks, and a dive shop (the only thing not owned by Slickrock). There is no maid service, air conditioning, email, or flush toilets. But there is a fridge permanently loaded with Fantas and Belikin beer. It’s the best in adventure travel — right down to the excellent Garifuna chefs who cook your meal and then sit down with you to dine.
Depending on your experience, our Water Sports Center is either the cushiest camp or the most rustic resort you have seen. We keep the island in as natural a state as possible, and there is no electricity or plumbing. Cabanas are perched above the surf, and the ever-present breeze keeps the temperatures well below what they are on the mainland (see Belize temperature). Each cabana has single or double beds, a solar-powered light, and a porch with hammocks and lounge chairs (see the island accommodations page).

Our dining hall features solar and wind-powered lights and music, propane stove and refrigerator (for cold beer and soda!), and our extensive library. We drink collected rainwater, and we bathe with well water pumped by the sun (not heated, the showers are about 70 degrees). Composting toilets (odor-free!) complete this ecologically friendly set-up. Our spacious island (13.5 acres) and rustic facilities ensure your comfort without compromising the adventure of living on an undeveloped and uncrowded island. Best of all, a hammock with your name on it is waiting under the palms. For more details on these and other island amenities visit our web page.
Please visit our Long Caye page to view more photos of our island facilities.
